Tenant Involvement

Tenant Involvement
St Leger Homes of Doncaster values the views of its customers and we encourage them to take part in the consultation and decision making processes that affect their homes and their communities. To ensure that customers are able to participate on an informed basis we provide them with accurate and useful information. The information customers feed back is used to help us plan our services. Everyone has a role to play in this.

Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council has a long tradition of involving customers in participation and consultation exercises; St Leger Homes of Doncaster will continue to develop this practice.

There are currently over 70 Tenants and Residents Associations (TARAs) covering approximately 19,800 mixed tenure households.

Individual TARAs elect representatives to the Standing Joint Committee (SJC) of the Doncaster Federation of Tenants and Residents Associations (DFTRA).

Both the TARAs and the SJC work to agreed constitutions and receive financial assistance and other support, such as help with producing leaflets.

Local Area Forums, made up of TARA and SJC representatives, and officers of St Leger Homes of Doncaster meet to ensure a mutual sharing of news and information.

There are other ways in which tenants can become involved. An example is Talkback - a panel of a maximum of 200 customers we can contact from time to time to discuss various housing management issues.

Tenants are also consulted through postal, telephone or home visit surveys.
In addition we arrange meetings to discuss specific topics - perhaps improvements on individual estates.

The Tenants Compact is a written agreement between St Leger Homes of Doncaster and its tenants. This sets out the arrangements for consultation and participation - focussing on the following six core standards.

  • Housing Services
  • Resources for Tenant Participation
  • Meetings
  • Information
  • Tenant Groups
  • Monitoring and Measuring Performance

There are also Local Compacts, which are agreements between a group of residents (most often, but not necessarily, a TARA) and the Council. A Local Compact caters for local or neighbourhood interests.
