The support of tenants and the Standing Joint Committee is key for St Leger Homes.
The involvement of tenants and the SJC helped the Audit Commission decide to give St Leger its two stars – an award that has allowed one of the biggest investments into housing that Doncaster has ever seen. On behalf of the Council, St Leger Homes is transforming the quality of lives for thousands of residents over the next few years through the Decent Homes Programme.
The Decency programme is huge, with hundreds of houses being worked on at any one time. Such large scale work inevitably causes disruption to tenants, but the end results will hopefully justify the upheaval. Having your house upside down for weeks is never pleasant but we work hard with our building contractors to keep mess to a minimum and keep people informed.
I hope that our many TARAs across Doncaster will go from strength to strength. As more people join, more can be done and the voice of the tenant will become stronger. I am committed to involving tenants and their representatives and the Tenants Compact document sets out how we work together.
St Leger Homes is determined to help the SJC strengthen the TARA movement in Doncaster. We are keen to report on their successes through the HouseProud newsletter and will do everything we can to help attract new recruits.
Best wishes
Martin
